SuccessFactors Joule and the Privacy Act's automated decision rules

Joule Assistants arrive across payroll, time and recruiting as automated decision transparency obligations begin in December 2026.

SAP's 1H 2026 SuccessFactors release is rolling out Joule Assistants across payroll, time, core HR, recruiting, onboarding, HR service, workforce planning and upskilling. Australia's automated decision-making transparency obligations under the Privacy Act commence in December 2026.

The Privacy Act will require tracking and disclosure where software uses personal information to make decisions that could significantly affect someone's rights or interests. In an HRIS, that will touch candidate matching, payroll issue detection, HR case routing, workforce planning, skills inference and manager recommendations.

For each of those, you need to know where the AI output enters the process, who reviews it, what gets recorded, and whether your organisation can explain how it is being used.

Assessing that before these tools are embedded in HR, payroll and workforce processes is worth your team's attention.
