Workday's mandatory Change Job update: check controls, not just completion

A field hidden under the old configuration can reappear in the enhanced experience, so promotions and transfers need re-testing.

With 2026R2, Workday is making its enhanced Change Job experience mandatory. That could affect how common employee changes such as promotions and transfers are controlled.

Workday's own documentation gives a useful example. A field that has been deliberately hidden under the existing configuration can still appear in the enhanced experience unless the Change Job template is also changed.

That is a small technical detail with a bigger process consequence.

Take a promotion that also changes an employee's location and compensation. After the update, I'd want to know:

  • Can the initiator still see and change only what they should?
  • Do the right people review each part?
  • Do the expected validations and downstream processes still occur?

I wouldn't sign off the change simply because the transaction reaches “Complete”.
